Cleveland Alleyne stole one cellular phone valued $9000 and a laptop worth $120,000 from Joro Azore on October 28, last. He appeared before the Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday morning and was jailed for nine months.
Prosecutor Michael Grant said that on the day in question at around 7:30hrs, Azore went home and noticed his articles missing. He said that when he called the cellular phone the defendant answered. The matter was reported, and the defendant was then arrested and charged.
The defendant was unrepresented and pleaded guilty to the charge; he is 23-years-old and had no prior convictions.
Chief Magistrate Sewnarine-Beharry took into consideration the prevalence and seriousness of the crime, his age, and the fact that all the articles were recovered when she made her ruling.
