Police in the interior have arrested four men as they probe the brutal beating to death of 17-year old gold miner Azad Potter.
The teenager, whose address was listed as Garden of Eden, East Bank Demerara, succumbed to severe injuries which resulted from a beating he received at Konawaruk Backdam, Potaro.
Police say their investigations have revealed that Potter was allegedly beaten by a group of men who accused him of stealing articles from their mining camp. He died before receiving medical attention.
The four men who have been arrested are assisting with the investigations.
A source in the interior told this newspaper that the limited presence of police ranks there has led to an increase in vigilante justice.
There have been several reports of persons taking the law into their own hands, resulting in fatal outcomes in a number of cases.
