Rupununi logger indicted in drinking buddy’s stabbing death
A Rupununi logger has been charged with the murder of his 35-year-old friend.

Martin Salvadorie, 48, who appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday, is alleged to have stabbed his friend Wilson James to death in Nappi Village, Central Rupununi, last Wednesday.
It was reported that the two villagers were imbibing piwari (a local Amerindian alcoholic beverage) at James’ home last Wednesday night when they became involved in an argument.
The quarrel reportedly led to a scuffle during which James was stabbed several times about his body with a knife. James, a farmer and father of three, died as a result of the injuries sustained.
The police had said that his body was discovered about 10:00 hours the following day. Doctors had pronounced him dead after he was taken to the Lethem Hospital.
Following investigations, Salvadorie was arrested and charged with murder. When the charge was read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday morning he was not required to plead. The case was prosecuted by Police Prosecutor, Inspector Michael Grant.
After the brief hearing, the logger was remanded to prison. The case was transferred and is set to be called at the Lethem Magistrates’ Court on December 1.
