Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), after he was catapulted off his motorcycle by a speeding vehicle that struck him from behind last Sunday afternoon in the La Parafait Harmonie Housing Scheme, West Bank Demerara.
According to his wife, Mark Gentle suffered a damaged spine, broken right arm and several bruises about his body from the accident, which subsequently left most of his body immobile.
Paula Gentle explained that her husband’s condition has been critical since the mishap, and he “still has not uttered a word and can barely move his head and neck.”
Reports indicate that around 18:30 hours, the Laparkan employee was riding home on his “250 Custom” motorcycle, when a speeding vehicle allegedly struck his motorcycle from behind and “blasted” him off.
Gentle’s wife said that he was rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital by public-spirited citizens in her village, who later informed her that the driver of the vehicle was believed to be “under the influence of alcohol”.
She said that her husband was later transferred to GPHC due to the severity of his injuries.
“Doctors told me that all I could do now is pray and hope that my husband recovers. They said his condition is very critical and he will be like this for a while.” she related.
His wife noted that the matter was reported at La Grange Police Station, and the driver of the vehicle was apprehended.
