Quick action by police led to the arrest of one of two gunmen who snatched $2M from a 69-year-old businessman in Regent Street at around 13.00 hrs yesterday.
Police said that 69-year-old Deryck Khan of Subryanville made a withdrawal from a city bank, and was about to transact business at a Regent Street store, when a man with a handgun attempted to snatch his money-bag.
A struggle ensued and the robber discharged a shot before relieving the businessman of his bag. He then escaped with an accomplice on a CG motorcycle.
Acting on information, police ranks went to East Ruimveldt where they arrested a suspect. The man was positively identified as the robber who had attacked Khan.
He is likely to appear in court next Monday. The money was not recovered.
