GECOM swears in Assistant Commissioner of National Registration

Elections Commission (GECOM), Nolan Jervis, took his oath of office at a simple swearing in ceremony held in the chambers of Chief Justice (Ag) Ian Chang on Tuesday.
This ceremony follows the appointment of Mr. Jervis as Assistant Commissioner on September 22, 2014, by GECOM.
Jervis brings significant experience to his new position as ACNR, having been employed with GECOM since 2005 as a Registration Officer attached to the East Bank Demerara Registration Office.
While at that office, he was primarily responsible for the effective and efficient conduct of registration within the Registration Area of his responsibility.
The holder of a Bachelor of Social Sciences Degree in Business Management (Distinction) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Development Studies, both from University of Guyana, Jervis, according to a GECOM press statement, has both the experience and the qualifications for the position of ACNR to which he has been appointed.
The commission has been accused by the ruling People’s Progressive Party of being biased in its recruitment process.
The party had openly voiced concern over GECOM’s appointment of Public Relations specialist Richard Francios as their new PRO.
Jervis’ appointment as Assistant Commissioner National Registration followed the rigorous and transparent recruitment and selection process employed by GECOM, which commenced with the vacancy being advertised in the media, followed by the receipt of applications as well as the shortlisting of candidates. Interviews were conducted by a panel comprising members of the Commission, the Chairman and the Chief Election Officer.
