initiative, started by the Rotary Club of Guyana.
The three computers which were donated to the Guyana Prison Service (GPS) two Fridays ago, was done as part of the Club’s education programme drive.
The initiative was done under the GPS’s Literacy Programme, which started in 2005 by the Club’s past President and also former Director of Prisons, Dale Erskine, as a way to lend a hand in the educational enhancement of those under the supervision of the GPS.
This donation continues the club’s commitment over the years as a supporter of the GPS Literacy Programme and has previously provided the prison agency with resource personnel which have improved literacy, and were able to contribute to the educational environment of the prison. The Rotary Club has also donated other resource materials to further this endeavour, including computers.
As an extension of Rotary International, the local club regularly contributes to the educational sector as part of the global organisation’s dedication to developing “Basic Education and Literacy.” Through the programme, inmates have the opportunity to increase their capacity for technological proficiency.
The regional branch of the club regularly collaborates with Corporate Sponsors – Digicel, Guyana and Dapper Technology, which have also assisted the organization in generous service to the GPS.
