proverbial ‘Phoenix’. The company, which suffered two fires in quick succession a while ago, was quite a showpiece at this year’s GuyExpo. This is evidence enough that there is a comeback in business operations. On display at the exhibition, were many of their eye catching mattresses and other foam products.
The company’s Head Office is located at 49 Eccles, Industrial Estate, East Bank Demerara (EBD). Last October, Comfort Sleep, suffered a major blow when a fire ravaged their storage bonds. It was later concluded by the Guyana Fire Service that the blaze was caused by a chemical reaction due to seepage from one of the containers which contained a highly flammable substance that is used to manufacture the foam for their mattresses.
Less than a month later, on November 28, another blaze destroyed the company’s main building which housed the manufacturing factory. However, the cause of this flame was not determined.
Managing Director, Dennis Charran assured that the company will get back on track to the quality mattress production services that they have provided for over ten years.
In addressing the current status of the company, Charran commented that he was happy with the achievement his company has made in rebuilding and restarting their operations over the past year.
“It was very challenging to restart,” said the Managing Director, “but the public response was overwhelming.” He elaborated that public demand helped the company tremendously in getting back on their feet, which showed a great public loyalty to the company.
Charran said that “the public definitely missed us”.
While the company has a positive outlook on where it is headed with regard to reestablishing the brand, according to Charran, it still recognizes that it has a long way to go before getting back to where the business used to be.
He said that since restarting mattress production the company has added more mattresses to its production line, to keep up with customer demand.
The Managing Director reiterated that the business is always receiving calls about the products, even after the fires. He is confident that with such sustained interest from the public, the company will definitely make a full recovery.
