Keno Thompson and Joel Gittens, both 23, and of Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, were charged with simple larceny and placed on $40,000 bail each when they appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the New Amsterdam court.
The two men were caught on camera stealing one Black Berry Torch cellular phone, valued at $65,000. The incident occurred on September 8 at Evil Eyes Audio and Video Store of New Amsterdam.
According to Prosecutor, Sergeant Godfrey Playter, on the day in question the owner, Tonya Semple, left the phone on the counter of the store with the sales clerk. The two accused walked into the store and saw the phone. They quickly hatched a plan how to steal the device. One of them engaged the sales clerk in conversation while the other picked up the phone. All their actions were caught on camera.
The men are scheduled to return to court on October 14.
