Bandits robbed the owners of Shivnauth Lumber yard at De Hoop, Mahaica yesterday then made good their escape in a customer’s car.
The stolen Toyota Allion, belonging to Amar Sookar, was found hours later at Hope, East Coast Demerara.
Kaieteur News understands that at around 11:00 hrs, three men armed with a gun and chopper entered the lumber yard and demanded cash from sales employee Tulsidai Shivnauth.
When she refused, the men allegedly assaulted Shivnauth and forced her to hand over the keys to a safe. The men also stole the employee’s cellular phone and other personal items.
Sookar, the customer, reportedly walked into the store while the robbery was in progress.
“He (Sookar) said that he saw the female worker lying on the floor but he could not have walked back out because the men saw him and pointed the gun at him and asked for his keys,” a source told this newspaper.
Sookar allegedly handed over his car key and the men escaped with his vehicle, which reportedly contained $50,000, his national identification card and other items.
