A nine-year-old boy who was stung by a swarm of Africanised bees at La Belle Alliance, Essequibo, on Tuesday has died from his injuries.
Romesh Samaroo, called ‘Khrishna’, of Lima Housing Scheme, Essequibo, was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation after the attack.

Relatives said the child’s kidneys apparently failed as a result of the venomous stings he sustained.
Kaieteur News understands that Samaroo was riding on a street at La Belle Alliance on Tuesday when a group of boys struck a ball into a clump of bushes and disturbed a hive of Africanised bees.
After seeing the swarm, the boys jumped into a nearby canal. They reportedly urged Samaroo to join them, but the child said that he could not swim and remained on the road, where the bees attacked him.
Samaroo’s grandfather reportedly came to the scene and tried to cover his grandson with his own body, but by then the child was already badly stung.
Samaroo and the grandfather, who was also stung, were admitted to the GPHC. The child died four days later, while his grandfather was released from hospital.
Meanwhile, residents fear that others may also be injured, since the bush where the swarm is nesting is still to be cleared.
