Alcoholics drank selves to death

Allan Gobin, the 47-year-old man who was found dead around 15: 45 hrs on Friday evening with suspected marks of violence in a house at Moore Street, Cumberland, died from cirrhosis of the liver.
That was the report of an autopsy conducted by Dr. Vivekanand Brijmohan on Saturday at the New Amsterdam Hospital.
Gobin, called ‘Antics’, ‘Allan Whoop’ and ‘Nat a Boy’ lived with his cousin Lalita Indranarine,
called ‘Samantha’ at Lot 41 New Street, Cumberland, East Canje, Berbice. He was found lying on his back on a bed without a mattress in an abandoned house which is owned by his mother.
Police had observed what appeared to be a head injury and also another injury to the right foot.
A female cousin with whom Gobin had lived said she last saw him alive on Wednesday afternoon when he left to take a walk.
The woman had told the media that she had thought nothing of it when he failed to return during the evening, since he would sometimes sleep at the abandoned house when he was drunk.
However, when Gobin failed to return on Thursday, an uncle, David Ramdial, decided to search for him and eventually located his dead nephew.
Meanwhile, Khemlall Latchman, 46, of Canefield Village, who was found dead on Wednesday on a street in the village also died from cirrhosis of the liver. He was also an alcoholic.
That finding was also revealed on Saturday after the autopsy was conducted by Dr. Brijmohan at the New Amsterdam Hospital.
Latchaman was seen lying motionless on the street by residents who informed the police.
