DEAR EDITOR,
Just happened to catch a fairly lively TV discussion concerning the hazards of public fires ignited deliberately by various miscreants in different locations.
The panel consisted of the head of a private security firm, a Station Officer, and one other uniformed contributor identified on screen as the Chief Fire Officer.
The reason the last designation caught my attention was simply that there is no such position in the relevant section of the Estimates of 2014, presented to, and debated by, the National Assembly. Indeed this omission is noted in the Estimates of 2012 and 2013, respectively.
There appears to be a misnomer therefore when reference is made to Chief Fire Officer. One hopes that the current misnamed Officer has not been deluded, whether intentionally or otherwise. In the current environment he/she should insist upon appropriate ‘reparation’.
Who then is the Deputy “Chief Fire Officer”? E.B. John
