The Guyana Rice Development Board (GRBD) has drafted a plan under the National Paddy Bug Management Unit to eradicate the issue of paddy bugs in the fields. Research has been done extensively to bring this problem under control, and so far Dr. Vivian Bharally has been in Region Two working with farmers.
Bharally met with farmers and have discussed effective methodologies of spraying. Farmers were also briefed on the importance of spraying at an early diagnosis of the paddy bug. Bharally, who has over a decade experience in the field of paddy bug control said, the situation in the Region is not alarming and once the farmers adhere to the recommendations prescribed, the bugs can be controlled.
She however, warned rice farmers to continue to visually monitor the rice crop and properly control their weeds.
