Four students were awarded junior black belts when the Mae’s Dojo of the Guyana Wado Ryu Karate Association held its karate grading exercise for students recently at the school in Subryanville.

The students promoted to junior black belt are Uriel Isadore, Abhinav Singh, Alexie Hopkinson and Reia Persaud.
A total of 32 students participated in the exercise supervised by Chief Instructor Sensei Winston Dunbar.
The other students were promoted to the following ranks as follows:
3rd Kyu – 2#
4th Kyu – 2#
5th Kyu – 7#
6th Kyu – 9#
7th Kyu – 8#
Karate continues to teach self defense, instill discipline, increase fitness and concentration in the students. Under the tutelage of 5th Dan Sensei Winston Dunbar, great development is being seen in the students of Mae’s Dojo, President of the GWKA, Darren Nurse said.
Classes are held in the auditorium of the school on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 3:30 – 4:30 pm.
Meanwhile, the Guyana Wado Ryu Association successful held its Annual Fitness Walk from the National Culture Centre to Banks DIH Sports Club. Over 70 students and parents attended the health Walk which coincided with the recent Caricom holiday.
