The East Bank zone of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport (MCY&S)/ National Sports Commission (NSC) Al Sport and Tour Promotion schools Windball tournament commenced recently at the National Park tarmac.
In the female category, New Diamond School lost to Covent Garden by seven wickets, New Diamond School batted first and scored 25-1 with Mikhaila Aggrippa scoring 12. Covent Garden responded with 27-3; Inderia Laurindo took 2-6.
Grove beat Peters Hall by 10 wickets. Peters Hall took first turn at the crease and managed 24-5, while Grove replied with 25 without lost. Rebecca Isaacs made 14. Eccles got the better of Craig by ten wickets. Craig made 36-1, batting first with Amisha Bangatt scoring 17 and Navita Sukhu 15. Eccles responded with 40-0. Crystal Grant stroked 17 and Branna Innis 15.
In the male division, Covent Garden and Craig played to a tie. Craig batted first and scored 57-3. Leonard Thomas made 14. Covent Garden replied with 57-1, Stephan Bascom led with 23 and Jeremiah Singh 19.
The New Diamond Primary went down to Grove by 10 wickets. New Diamond took first strike and posted 27-7 taking first strike. Akeem Smith snared 3-6 and Jeremy Paris 2-8. Grove scored 29-0 in reply with Corvin Griffith getting 29.
Peters Hall defeated Eccles by two runs. Peters Hall took first turn at the crease and rattled up 50-2. Romario Persaud slammed 34 and Orwin Hunte 13. Defending champions Eccles responded with 48-4. Rawl Griffith made 12 and Jonathan Samsundar 11. Joshua Jones took two wickets.
Meanwhile, Director of Sport Neil Kumar declared the tournament open. Addressing the participants, School teachers and parents, Kumar lauded the organiser and said he will continue to support the sport. He also spoke of the importance of discipline and education.
