Americas Federation of Netball Associations (AFNA) Umpire Trainer / Tester Barbadian Veronica Harris arrived in Guyana on Thursday to commence a 3-day Umpiring Workshop for aspiring netball umpires.

The sessions which started yesterday at the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) Headquarters on High Street, Kingston saw in attendance President of the Guyana Netball Association (GNA) Lavern Fraser-Thomas, Vice-President of the GOA Noel Adonis, who gave brief remarks and welcomed the official and participants.
The Workshop apart from developing the knowledge of aspiring umpires will also cater for players and coaches who are interested in enhancing their understanding of the sport.
According to a release, the objectives of the exercise are to (1) – to have a pool of preliminary umpires who will be well motivated and equipped to move on and become qualified umpires, (2) – to identify at least one person in the country who will be able to maintain continuous assessment of the umpires and to maintain contact and provide feedback and guidance to umpires.
The sessions are expected to resume today and among the areas that will be covered are (1) – starting the game, (2) – working on footwork, (3) – substitutions and team changes which will include group work and presentations, (4) – throw-in and short pass.
