Many governments around the globe are building their education investment roadmaps aligned to the digitized classroom initiative. In Guyana, STARR Computers in collaboration with technology giant, Samsung, has introduced the “Samsung Smart School” to enhance learning with the latest technologies.
The presentations were made by Samsung officials at Starr Computer, 59 Brickdam, on Wednesday.
Present were Samsung’s Head of Enterprise Division, Marco Osio; Manager Regional Solutions Arsenio Ramos Leguizamon; teachers from the Government Technical Institute, and STARR representatives.
The team had already met with President Donald Ramotar and Minister of Education Priya Manickchand earlier in the week.
According to Samsung’s Head of Enterprise Division Marco Osio, today’s educational paradigm is shifting to students-centric learning and advancements in digital technology have opened new avenues for interaction and collaboration in classrooms.
Osio noted that the shifting educational landscape brings to schools new opportunities to provide personalized and adaptive learning to students.
Underscoring that the dynamic learning experience provided by rich digital content, digitally native students can actively participate in the classroom and enhance their understanding of learning materials, the Samsung representative said the student-centric method of teaching is based on more interactive, collaborative learning which helps better engage students to gain 21th century skills and realize their full potential.
“Samsung smart school is the leading solution across the globe. Several case studies in Europe, Asia, America and now Latin America can prove that and Guyana will be a case study for the world to see.”
Manager, Regional Solutions, Arsenio Ramos Leguizamon, said that “smart education” is incorporating the advanced technology which offers more well informed personalized learning aimed at individual teaching schemes to meet the needs of all learners not just the average child.
“Not only will teachers be able to increasingly differentiate instructions, students will have more power over the pace and style of their own education. In additional to the national agenda and vision, technology savvy teachers, principals, parents and students all have different needs that they seek to fulfill in the era of smart education.”
President of Starr Computers, Michael Mohan, explained that Samsung provides schools with a full suite of mobile devices suited for educational purposes as well as software solutions and rich content that together create a seamless mobile learning environment.
He said that these innovative and comprehensive tools enable students and teachers to access educational materials from anywhere, as well as interact and collaborate in various ways.
“Instead of combing through piles of paper, teachers can handle class management functions on their mobile devices with Samsung’s east-to-use management tool.”
Alluding to the fact that the home is a simple area where it can all start with a Samsung Smart TV and tablets or compatible devices, Mr. Mohan noted that this technology is an educational solution that provides exceptional fun learning experience need to unleash a child or children potential.
He further explained that the long term benefits of a smart school include educational cost reduction which when compared to printing books and revised edition is less. Books will be converted to digital content that will be available to all.
This will promote foreign exchange savings, reduced carbon footprint by using less paper and promote direct access to information rather than sequential.
Emphasizing that students of the current generation learn most through interactivity, Starr President noted that the Samsung Smart School is an amazing example of interactivity within the classroom environment.
It was disclosed that the Samsung Smart School solution enables the instant sharing of screen content from the teachers’ tablet to their students’ personal devices. It gives teachers greater control over their classroom, increasing student engagement and ensuring a more efficient transfer of materials to pupils. This solution facilitates the development of an interactive learning environment by offering dynamic Question and Answer sessions, and helps teachers monitor class attendance and participation, allowing them to work more independently and flexibly.
