A party of police men in Berbice ‘B’ Division took the fight to drug dealers up the Berbice River on Friday, destroying some 44 acres of marijuana.
After receiving numerous reports about the thriving drug trade in the area, police, travelling for over two hours in high-powered boats, went some 62 miles up the river to Gateroy, where the farms were located.
During the raid some six fields, a total of 44 acres of marijuana under cultivation were destroyed.
In addition, approximately 145,000 cannabis sativa plants ranging in height from one foot to 14 feet were destroyed. A total of 16 camps and approximately 8,000 kilograms of dried marijuana were found.
