The Guyana Fire Services (GFS) yesterday received two ambulances worth $16M from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The ambulances were handed over to Fire Chief, Marlon Gentle by the Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee, during a brief presentation in front of his Ministry’s Head Office on Brickdam, Georgetown.

“The ambulances were purchased from the 2013 budget allocation for the GFS and we have now taken custody of them. We now have to move to the second phase of making these ambulances operational and then they will be deployed within the fire service,” Gentle noted.
He added that once the ambulances are up and running, one will be placed in Berbice while the other one will be stationed at the Fire Service’s main office in central Georgetown.
“The role of these ambulances will be primarily to support the GFS’s emergency operation like when we go out on these road traffic accidents, fires or other incidents where persons have been injured,” the Fire Chief stressed.
The Minister refused to offer a comment on yesterday’s presentation.
