Verley Ethelene Bellamy nee Johannes is not your average centenarian.
Here is a woman that exhibits the humour, intelligence and mental acuity that would be the envy of many who are decades younger. She climbs the stairs in her home unaided, eats anything, and suffers from no chronic physical ailments.
Centenarian Verley Bellamy is flanked by her two daughters Jean Bellamy on her right and Joan Outridge.
Linden’s latest centenarian celebrated the coveted milestone on Thursday last, at her daughter Joan’s Redwood Crescent, Linden home.
However, she was treated to a sumptuous thanksgiving dinner on Saturday by her two daughters and several grand and great grandchildren.
Born on March 20th 1904 to Isakal and Harriet Johannes, Bellamy is the only survivor of the late couple’s seven children.
She is the mother of two girls Jean Bellamy and Joan Outridge , Grandmother of 10, great grandmother of 17 and great-great grandmother of four.
Asked how she felt about achieving the milestone, she said with enthusiasm, “I feel great, I feel fine, I’m happy.”
And her favorite pastime is sitting up late to listen to the Franklyn Langhorne late night radio show.
