Police are still looking for a motive for the suspected execution-style killing of a No.2 East Canje mother of four, Patricia Samaroo. Her sister Annetta, was also injured during the shooting which occurred on Friday night.
However, a number of theories are emerging, even as police continue to question two suspects, a third suspect is still at large.
Relatives have stated that the injured woman, Annetta Samaroo, was a witness to the killing of her husband, Gary Simon, who was murdered on the 18th December, 2004, at Nigg Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
Several persons were charged in connection with Simon’s murder. One accused, Adbussulum Azimulla called “Sato” 29 of Lot 183 Hampshire Corentyne Berbice was arrested eight years after Simon’s murder. He is still awaiting trial in the High court.
The relatives suggested that Annetta’s elder sister, Patricia, may have been slain by mistake, since the two sisters have some resemblance and the intended target was probably Annette.
Annetta Samaroo had reportedly recognized the gunman and had shouted : “Pop Corn, what you doing,” before the gunman shot her in the abdomen.
Kaieteur News understands that the gunman had intended to shoot her again, but the firearm malfunctioned. One of the woman’s sons who was at home reportedly tackled the gunman, but the intruder and his accomplice escaped in a waiting car.
The driver, said to be an ex-policeman, and the gunman’s alleged accomplice, were later detained and the alleged getaway car impounded.
Kaieteur News was told that the alleged gunman, Deodat “Pop Corn” Seecharran is known to the family since he visited the home on a few occasions. He is wanted for another murder that occurred in the Hampshire area last year. He has also been involved in a number of misdemeanors.
According to reports, Patricia Samaroo, 64, and her sister Annetta Samaroo, 45, were among other persons in their home at Fyrish, Corentyne, Berbice, on Friday night, when two men, one of whom was armed with a firearm, kicked open the door and entered the building.
The armed man discharged rounds at the two sisters, killing Patricia Samaroo and injuring Annetta Samaroo, after which they escaped in a motor vehicle. Annetta has been admitted to the New Amsterdam Hospital.
Police said that quick response by ranks led to the arrest of two men, one of whom has been identified as one of the suspects.
Patricia Samaroo’s husband passed away about four months ago due to poisoning.
A relative said that the family is poor and the father died without leaving anything. The woman was being taken care of by her daughter, since two of her three sons are in jail for various offences.
Marvin Samaroo, 45, of No. 2 Village, East Canje Berbice, was charged and later remanded for allegedly stealing a car PPP 3149 worth $1.2M at Adelphi Village, East Canje Berbice belonging to Jonathan Ricknauth.
Another brother, Ravin Samaroo, is in jail for possession of narcotics.
The slain woman’s daughter stated that she does not have money to bury her mother, and is appealing for help.
