Event held in observance of father’s 80th birthday
All systems are in place and all is set for top class cycling action in Berbice tomorrow. The top riders in the country are expected to journey to the Ancient County to participate in the Open 40-mile cycle event sponsored by overseas based former junior and national cycling champion Wilbert Benjamin and organised by the Flying Ace Cycle Club (FACC) in observance of the 80th birthday of Benjamin’s father, Sanko.
The race is expected to begin at 09:00hrs with the riders pedaling off from in front of the Benjamin’s Sports Store at Fyrish Village, Corentyne, where they are expected to journey to the No. 43 Bridge on the Corentyne before returning to their place of origin.
Lucrative prizes are up for grabs in the event with the winner expected to ride away with a sumptuous $80,000 and trophy.
Prizes will be awarded to the first six finishers along with the top three juniors, first three veterans under-50 and the top three females.
The cyclists will also compete for eight prime point prizes.
The race is open to all cyclists countrywide, while meals and refreshments will be provided for the participants and officials. The elder Benjamin is expected to be on hand to send the riders on their way and assist with the distribution of prizes.
