A scuffle between two brothers on Saturday night turned bloody leaving one hospitalised and the other in police custody.
Twenty-four-year-old Jason Benjamin is nursing a stab wound to the abdomen in the Male Surgical Ward of the Georgetown Public Hospital while his brother, 26-year-old Earl Benjamin, the alleged perpetrator, is detained at the Turkeyen Police Station pending investigations.
It is believed that Earl also was dealt a stab to his arm by an older brother who is currently on the run.
From his hospital bed, Jason related that the incident occurred sometime after 21:00 hours that night, while the siblings were drinking in the company of a group of friends. He said that they were attending a wake being held not far from their Lot 772 Section B8, South Sophia home.
Jason related that while there, the host of the wake expressed that he wanted his brother “out of the yard” due to his disorderly behaviour. The young man said that he then tried to escort his brother out, resulting in the attack. Jason could not say what weapon was used.
“Up to now I ain’t know is wha he use. I ain’t see the object was wha,” the injured man said. He was transported to the health facility by a family member.
Meanwhile, father of the siblings, Thomas Benjamin related that after receiving news of the attack, he immediately ventured down to the scene. He said that at that time, he had no idea that Earl was the attacker.
“When I went in Sophia, then is when I saw the older brother there. I saw him bleeding from the arm.”
The elder Benjamin explained that at this point he urged the injured son into his vehicle so that he could be taken to seek medical attention but his urges were rejected.
“A friend of his was trying to help him by tying his wound so he can come in the car and he gave the boy one cuff and break his spectacles,” the man added.
Police from the Turkeyen Police Station, responding to a report made by a villager, subsequently arrived and transported the injured Earl to the hospital before taking him into custody at the station.
