The President’s XI are in a comfortable position to register an outright victory against Essequibo as the second round of the Guyana Cricket Board organised Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T)\ Hand-in-Hand senior four-day Inter-County tournament continued yesterday at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Bourda.
At stumps on day two Essequibo, batting a second time were 126-6 in 35.5 overs, needing a further 68 runs to make their opponents bat again. The President’s XI resumed on their overnight first innings score of 121-4 with Skipper Vishal Singh on 52 and Shaquille Williams on 01 and were bowled out after lunch for 297.

Singh and Williams frustrated the Essequibians for most of the morning session with sensible batting. Williams cut and drove with disdain, brought up his fifty off 67 balls with eight four’s before he was caught at deep mid wicket off Anthony Adams for 52 at 199-5.
Singh continued to bat patiently and added a further 27 runs for the sixth wicket with wicketkeeper batsman Jason Sinclair before he was leg before to Adams for 86, Demerara went to lunch at 226-6; he struck one four and faced 245 balls.
Medium pacer Dillon Heyliger then removed Butts (00) while left arm spinner Keano Harry up rooted the stumps of Steven Sankar (01) after the break leaving the President’s XI on 262-8. But Sinclair took the fight to the opposition adding 33 for the ninth wicket with Andre Stoll before Stoll was bowled by Harry for 14 at 291.
Sinclair who timed the ball well brought up his half century off 107 balls before Seon Daniels (03) was caught off Harry which resulted in the President’s XI innings ending after 108 overs. Sinclair remained unbeaten on 60 with three fours and two sixes. Adams finished with 4-90 from 47 overs; Harry snared 3-49 off 17 overs while Heyliger claimed 2-59 and Kemo Paul 1-7.
Trailing by 193, Essequibo, batting a second time lost Kevon Boodie (00) LBW to Stoll in the first over with the score on 01 before Royan Federicks and Eaknauth Persaud added 52 for the second wicket.
Federicks took a liking for pacers Stoll and Daniels driving them to the cover boundaries on several occasions which prompted Singh to introduce spin. His decision proved fruitful when off spinner Collins Butts got rid of Persaud (12) off his first ball.
Entered Heyliger who came off the mark with an exquisite cover driven boundary off Butts before Stoll who was switched to the Regent Street end had Heyliger caught at second slip for 06 at 61-3.

Five runs later Federicks pushed forward to Butts and was taken at short leg by Seon Hetymer for 38 with six fours and one maximum. Essequibo then lost Adams LBW to Butts for 18 at 87-5, but Parmesh Parsotam and Paul halted the fall of wickets featuring in a sixth wicket stand of 39 with attacking batting before Parsotam was caught in the day’s last over at short wicket off Robin Bacchus for 23 (2×4) leaving Paul not out on 24 (3×4). Butts 2-14 and Stoll 2-19 are the pick of the bowlers so far. Play starts at 09:30hrs today.
