“It fall off and ah pick it up and put it in ma dust bax” said an East La Penitence man yesterday as he was convicted by the Chief Magistrate for the offence of simple larceny committed on R&R Imports on America Street.
Troy Lyte yesterday pleaded guilty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to the charge which alleged that on November 18, he stole a $2000 dress from the store headed by Rabindra Rampersaud.
Police Prosecutor Corporal Bharat Mangru told the court that the store usually displays clothes on mannequins and at about 16:00hrs on the day in question, Lyte disrobed the mannequin and strolled away with the dress.
The court heard that when the man was arrested, he admitted to stealing the item and was subsequently charged.
After listening to Lyte’s admission, Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry told him that he was old enough to know the consequences of his actions and sentenced him to two months behind bars.
