The Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA)-sanctioned Yolo Entertainment ‘Super Sevens’ basketball competition will continue today at the Burnham Basketball Court at 3pm after Harris Paints assisted in repainting the facility.
In a press release, the Entertainment Group noted that they have obtained support from corporate Guyana to contribute to the development of the sport and as such they will continue the good work they have started.
“Harris Paints donated three gallons of their “Ultima Plus” brand paint towards the repainting of the backboard structure and the court markings,” the release said, adding that Retail Services Manager Nicole Griffith was happy to make the contribution.
“Harris Paints was extremely happy to contribute to the repainting of the Burnham Court and wished the promotion group and GABA success not only for the Super Sevens but in all their endeavors,” the release said.
According to the release, Griffith said that with the five problem solving technologies combined into one can of Optima Plus the Burnham Court will not only be brightened up, the Super Sevens tournament will also be colourful today.
Yolo Entertainment said that the onus is now on the players to get them organised and come out and play ball. The promotion group is inclined to drop the registration fees for the tournament as they believe that this might have contributed to teams not registering early.
“The main focus is to have basketball played with the hope of attracting more players to join clubs or form new ones”, Kirk Jardine, Yolo head, said. “It’s not about making money. How can we make money at a venue that we cannot benefit from an entrance fee,” he added.
The group said that there is much work to be done for basketball with all hands included. He was in high praise of the work GABA President, Michael Singh, who along with Jardine and others was busy working on Burnham Court yesterday for the competition today.
