‘We are satisfied with preparations’- Bangladesh Manager

Bangladesh Under-19 cricket team opened their first ever tour to the Caribbean by trashing their Guyanese counterparts by 111 runs with 5.3 overs to spare in their warm-up match at the historic Bourda Oval yesterday.

This game concluded their preparations for the seven-match Under-19 ODI series against the West Indies Under-19 side which is scheduled to commence tomorrow at the Guyana National Stadium at Providence with a day/night encounter.
Played in sweltering heat and watched by a handful of die-hard fans, the Bangladesh teenagers scored 242-5 off their allotted 50 overs before dismissing the home team for a disappointing 131 in 44.3 overs.
It was a confidence boosting win for the visitors on South American soil after they were spearheaded by a 122-run fifth wicket stand between Mossadek Saikat who flayed the Guyana bowlers in his commanding 75 and Uddin Jashim who fashioned an unbeaten 65.
The pair joined forces at 95-4 and carried the score to 217 on a fast outfield and slow track before 14-year-old stand-out national Under-15 player Renaldo Ali Mohamed removed Saikat to a good catch by Steven Sankar, who surprisingly bowled just two overs. Saikat innings was decorated with four fours and five sixes while Jashim counted seven boundaries in his fluent knock.
Nazmul Shanto hit five fours in his 43 and along with 33 from Sadman Anik who reached the boundary three times, also offered batting support for Bangladesh whose Under-15 side toured the West Indies in 2008. Off-spinner Shailendra Shameer took 2-36 in a tidy 10-over spell.
Ramcharran top-scored for Guyana with 33 which included two fours despite nursing a foot injury when he was hit by a return from a fielder and had to be looked after by the physio who travelled with the Bangladesh team.
Ryan Shun (27) and Shameer (17) were the only other Guyanese to reach double figures although the 8th wicket pair of Skipper Shawn Pereira (8) and Romario Shepard (4) put together 21 in the most productive partnership of the innings.
Leg-spinner Zubair Likhon captured 3-19 from eight and a half overs while pacer Yasir Rabbi took 2-19 from six overs.
Meanwhile, Manager of the Bangladesh team Hoque Seezan said he was satisfied with the preparation of his team adding that the Bangladesh Under-19 squad was together for over three months before departing for Guyana.
“I am satisfied with our preparations. We were involved in a tri-nation series in England just before coming here and the players were aware that the conditions here would be almost the same as in Bangladesh. Many of the senior Bangladesh players who were exposed to Guyana’s conditions came and spoke to these lads about what to expect,” Seezan explained.
The Manager who played one Test and six ODIs for Bangladesh said he played in Guyana against Reon King during the 2002 Busta Cup Regional First Class tournament when Guyana’s opener Azeemul Haniff scored a double century and had first-hand experience of playing here.

Seezan informed that the Bangladesh Under-19 team has an adequate four-man support staff which includes Head Coach Australian Richard Mckinens and pointed out that it was easier for the boys to be divided up into small sections and each person who conduct different drills.
“Even though I played at the highest level, as Manager I don’t get involved in the technical aspects of the game with the team. I leave that to the Coaches although I would offer advice from time to time,” Seezan explained.
The Manager also has playing experience at this level having played against Chris Gayle in the 1998 youth World Cup in South Africa.
