Twenty- year-old, Jerome Smartt, was yesterday sentenced to eighteen months in prison after he pleaded guilty to snatching a gold chain.
Smartt answered to the robbery charge when he appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. The court heard that on September 29, 2013, in Georgetown, Smartt attacked and robbed Orlando Chand.
According to the prosecution’s facts, on Sunday last, at around 10:45 am, the virtual complainant, was walking on the street, when the defendant came from behind and snatched his chain. The complainant raised an alarm and the assailant was apprehended and taken into police custody. The stolen chain – valued at $50,000 – was recovered on Smartt’s person.
