Let us show appreciation for our National Awardees

The State from time to time confers National Honours on citizens who have contributed public service and have done much for the betterment of Guyanese society. These Honours (civilian) include M.S.- Medal of Service; A.A.-Arrow of Achievement; C.C.H. – Cacique Crown of Honour; O.R. – Order of Roraima; O.E. – Order of Excellence.
Most of the recipients are persons past middle age and the total number of such recipients amount to a few hundreds. In all civilized countries, society shows its gratitude to them by according them certain facilities.
I would like to earnestly suggest that the National Awardees be given some precedence in the Government Health Services so that they don’t have lengthy waits and could see doctors with promptitude. And when they go to Government offices, once they properly identify themselves, they should be given a little specialized help. The NIS should also give special consideration to such people. They should also be on the invitation lists for all appropriate Government functions. Other ways of society’s showing its appreciation could be gleaned from other jurisdictions.
I do hope this letter would catch the eye of His Excellency the President, the Protocol Division and other Governmental functionaries who could help. I do pray that quick action is taken, since many of the awardees are quite old and may not live long enough to enjoy any facility offered.
