…later took up position at Arrowpoint Resort – employees
Carolan Lynch did not only work as a Manager at the Arrow Point Resort up the Demerara River but also right under the nose of the police, at Duke Lodge, Kingston while a wanted bulletin was out for her arrest.
Duke Lodge is across the road from the headquarters of the Criminal Investigations Department in Kingston.
This was confirmed by the staff at the Arrow Point Resort recently. Both Arrow Point and Duke Lodge are owned by Gerry Gouveia, who claimed that he had no knowledge that his resort manager was a wanted person.
Gouveia made a public disclosure two Sundays ago, the same day Lynch reportedly fled the resort with her 14-year-old daughter.
The proprietor of the resort later told media operatives that the former beauty queen was employed by his Human Resources Department as a part time manager for no more than one month but his employees confirmed that she was there for more than four months.
One employee of the Arrow Point Resort said that Gouveia hardly visited the resort while Lynch was there.
However, the employee is certain that the “boss had to know that she was working at Duke Lodge before she came here.”
“We just hear that the new manager here would be Lynch, who was a former beauty queen and who was coming from Duke Lodge,” the source said.
Gerry Gouveia, is a member of the National Commission on Law and Order and there is some doubt over his declaration that he was unaware that Lynch was a fugitive from justice, a police source said.
Lynch was arrested in 2007, following the death of her husband Farouk Razac, who owned the Swiss House Cambio.
In 2008, then Magistrate Gordon Gilhuys discharged the murder charge against her.
However, the former beauty queen was rearrested almost immediately after for the same murder, and the charge was reinstituted.
In 2010, after she failed to appear before Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry on several occasions, an arrest warrant was issued, followed by a wanted bulletin.
After evading the law for a long time, police got wind a week ago, that Lynch was working as a manager at Gouveia’s Arrow Point Resort but by the time they got there, the woman had already disappeared.
Police sources suspect that someone in their department may have tipped off the proprietor of the resort who reportedly advised Lynch to flee.
On Saturday, staffers at the resort were very tight-lipped about Lynch’s connections there. Whenever someone enquired about Lynch, they would look at each other and smile, and then ask, “Why you want know about her?”
One worker said that Lynch was employed by Gouveia himself because she “needed money” to assist in taking care of her daughter who is being supported by her (Lynch’s) mother.
The employee however could not say when exactly the fugitive started working with the establishment.
The worker even went on to say that Lynch left the resort sometime in July last and returned with her daughter.
“Her (Lynch) mother was out of the country and she (Lynch) told me that she doesn’t want to leave her child with her aunt so she went out and bring in the little girl.”
According to the source, Lynch was tasked with making sure that the guests at the resort were happy.
“She would make sure the food is up to date and so. Sometimes she would go in the trail with the visitors. She was very nice. Everyone liked her very much. We don’t believe she killed her husband.”
Kaieteur News was told that the woman left the resort for good two Sundays ago after promising her colleagues to return the following day.
“She said that she has to take her daughter out back and that she will come back the Monday, but she was acting a little strange that day.”
It is believed that at that time she had been tipped off that her cover was blown.
“I think she sell her own self out. When people come here, she does give out her facebook name and so.”
According to the employee, from all indications, Lynch’s former in-laws found out that she was working at Arrow Point and made checks until they eventually confirmed that she was there.
The employee added that Lynch had told him that someone “left her in the heat.”
“She told me that she didn’t kill him. She said she had carried her daughter to school and when she came back home, she went in the gym which was located downstairs at her house, and when she went upstairs back she saw him lying on the floor.”
According to the employee, Lynch did not appear as if she had anything to hide.
This publication learnt that Lynch and some of the staffers were involved in a “side business” at the resort. They would sometimes throw huge parties at which guests were invited.
The employees said that they did not know that she was a fugitive from justice, and only learnt about it when the news appeared in the newspaper. By then Lynch was gone.
This publication was told that the Toshau for Santa Mission, where the resort is located, was upset that Lynch was employed there.
“I hear they (leaders of the village) had a meeting and they discussed about having a ‘criminal’ working in the area but nothing came out from the meeting,” the employee said.
According to the employee, they all knew about the murder of Lynch’s husband.
From all appearances, the resort is still being closely monitored just in case Lynch should return.
Last Sunday, there was a boat loaded with men who appeared to be policemen circling the resort. The source also added that “suspicious men” would just stop in front of the resort.
“I don’t know if they are police or what, but they does come in front here, look in and drive away without saying anything.”
It is not clear if apart from his public statement, Gerry Gouveia has given a statement to the police for what is, by his own admission, harbouring a fugitive, which is a criminal offence.
A high ranking police officer opined that over the years, “We have come to recognize and accept that Guyana as a country seriously mirrors the story of Animal Farm, a famous novel written by George Orwell.”
Lynch’s present whereabouts are still unknown.
