Ranks of the Guyana Police Force yesterday conducted raids in a number of communities in Georgetown, where 28 persons were arrested, for a number of criminal offences.
According to the police, raids were carried out in Albouystown, Alberttown, Sophia, Meadow Bank, Charlestown and West Front Road, during which twenty-three (23) men and five (5) women were apprehended pending investigations into possession of narcotics, armed robbery and break and enter and larceny.

The police added that a. 25 starter pistol was recovered in Albouystown.
Lawrence Rodrigues, 27, of Light Street, Alberttown, who was sentenced to four years imprisonment during June 2013 following an ex parte trial on charges of possession of firearm without licence and possession of ammunition without licence; and a suspect in the murder of Quincy Sookall, was among those arrested.
On August 3, Sooklall, a 20-year-old resident of Riverview, Ruimveldt, was pulled out from the Demerara River, behind the Police Maritime Branch at Ruimveldt. Just prior to the discovery of the body, the man had been reported missing.
