DEAR EDITOR,
I commend Mr. Alexander, commissioner at the Guyana Elections Commission, for doing the noble and righteous thing. I applaud him for demonstrating the fortitude, consciousness, vigilance and due diligence that the commission needs.
I would also like to thank the other commissioners and the chairman for putting the interest of the Guyanese people above their own and party for the desired hope of achieving a better Guyana by preserving our semblance of democracy.
This emancipated mind is what is greatly needed and should be cultivated and harvested by all citizenry so we can be liberated from this plague-ridden, infestation of corruption in Guyana.
This miscalculation of seats, this human error that this ‘act’ is being characterized as, and by others as a simple mistake, has and had the potential to disenfranchise the will of the people who would have entrusted this commission with this immense responsibility to ensure that their democratic right to vote is honestly represented.
This responsibility that has been bestowed on these actors is one in which the highest degree of professional ethics and astuteness is expected. No pitiful or apologetic expressions can or should be accepted, moreover, the pontification of ‘I am only human’ is equally unacceptable.
Mr. Gocool Boodoo’s fallible trait that we all possess, along with his wealth of knowledge and experience, can and should be executed in another field of service, one where the nation and its people’s confidence is not in great demand, where his simple mistakes would not have the potential to affect or jeopardize the will of the people.
