After being found guilty of fraudulent conversion by the court, Arian Narine of Riverstown, Essequibo, was given a two-year suspended prison sentence. The ruling was made by Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday
Narine was charged for fraudulently converting $240,000 worth of steel rods, which belonged to Nazim Parsham, on June, 30 2010. He had initially pleaded not guilty to the allegation. Police Prosecutor, Ramsahoye Rambajue submitted that sufficient evidence lies before the court to convict Narine of fraudulent conversion.
However, before he was sentenced, the defendant offered to make retribution for his crime.
As such Magistrate Azore ordered that Narine repay the complainant and placed him on a two-year suspended sentence (meaning should he be charged and brought before the court for any offence within that period he will have to serve that sentence).
