Another man who decided that his wife was a punching bag has been punished for his actions. He had dealt the woman a licking following a misunderstanding between the two.
The man Suresh Ramphal, 46, of Doctor Bush, Albion, Corentyne, Berbice a father of nine, is accused of beating his wife, Sheonitree Sheomber, called Anita, on Wednesday June 19, last, at their home.
He appeared before Magistrate Roby Benn on Friday at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s court and pleaded guilty to the charge of assault.
Prosecutor, Sergeant Phillip Sheriff, told the court that on the day in question, the man returned home and met his wife lying in a hammock. After a while an argument ensued and he proceeded to beat the woman about her body, in the interim throwing her to the ground where the beating continued with a piece of wire.
The matter was reported and he was arrested and charged.
In court he pleaded for leniency. He told the Magistrate, “Me and she got problems and me son beat me.”
However prosecutor Sheriff informed the court that he was previously charged with a similar offence.
The Magistrate ordered that he pay a fine of $10,000 with an alternative of two weeks in jail.
Ramlall immediately informed the court that he has no money and was jailed.
