Two women from a Greater Georgetown residence had to seek medical treatment at around 04:00 hrs after being raped and robbed by three bandits who gained entry to their home by kicking open their front door.
According to reports, the two women, aged 26 and 19, were asleep at around 03:30 hrs when the intruders, who were armed with a handgun and knives, forced their way into the home.
It is alleged that they then separated the women before sexually assaulting them and relieving the victims of their cell phones.
The robber with the gun discharged a round in the house before fleeing with his accomplices.
Acting on information, a police patrol went to Mandela Avenue where they spotted the robbers. Two of them managed to escape while the third, who is a 25-year-old Campbellville resident, was apprehended.
Kaieteur News understands that he is likely to be charged shortly.
