Dear Editor,
I am the owner of two minibuses, both of which operate Route 40 (Kitty/Campbellville). We do have a line system, but there are about eight minibuses that do not join the line. They are always on the hotplate.
To these eight buses, it seems as though police officers would turn a blind eye, but if any other bus is caught on the hotplate, it is taken into custody.
There is a policeman who owns a black bus, and who also conducts it whenever he is not working. That bus has never joined the line, and the policeman’s comrades never see that bus, although it is on the hotplate.
Last Saturday evening (May 11, 2013), a slim tallish, fair-skinned young constable was seen collecting $500 from four of these hotplate buses.
I was also approached to pay this money, but I refused. In that way, those buses are making their trips before you can make one.
I am calling on the commissioner and traffic chief to please look into this, as it is not fair to us.
Thank you in advance. R. Persaud.
