Workers from the Uitvlugt Sugar estate are threatening strike action after they were told that they would not be paid for this month. Workers told Kaieteur News that the estate manager Mr. Colbert Vicette called a meeting yesterday morning and informed them about the “problem”.
Kaieteur News was told that workers had expected Friday to be their “pay day”. This newspaper was further told that the Manager could not give employees a date when they would be paid.
This newspaper understands that this issue affects the workers who are “permanent employees”. Workers yesterday begged for the unions to step in and ensure that their rights aren’t trampled upon.
