– constitutional amendments on the cards
The membership of the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPF) has shown 100% confidence in their stewardship by returning the entire executive barring one change when that entity held its Annual General Meeting yesterday at the Tropical View Hotel, Campbell Avenue and Delph Street, Campbellville.

Back at the helm! GAPF President Peter Green (3rd left) pose with his new executive from right, Lynette Lewis, Winston Stoby, Davi Parmamand, Denroy Livan, Dawn Barker, Nigel Hinds and Edwin Gordon Spencer.
After successful deliberations following the President’s Address, Secretary and Treasurer Reports and the New Five Year Development Plan, the membership sought to ensure that the progress that the federation has embarked on over the past five years, continue.
President Peter Green, Vice President Edwin Gordon Spencer, Secretary Dawn Barker, Treasurer Nigel Hinds, Organising Secretary / Public Relations Officer Denroy Livan along with Committee Members Winston Stoby and Lynette Lewis were all returned unopposed.
The lone addition to the executive is that of Committee Member Davi Parmanand who has replaced Farouk Abdool.
Green in his acceptance speech said that he wanted his executive to be much more proactive this time around noting that he wants persons to function in the various positions they were elected to serve.
Changes to the current constitution were proposed and among the changes is to extend the life of the executive to two years from the current one. The consensus was that a Special General Meeting should be called to only deal with constitutional changes with the relevant proposals for changes being circulated to the membership in good time.
The new committee is expected to meet shortly to streamline plans for this year which is anticipated to be hectic locally, regionally and internationally.
Powerlifting has taken off leaps and bounds over the past five years with Guyana carving out its own niche at every level it has participated and is the team to beat in the Caribbean. That progress is set to continue and improve during the 2013 season.
