Work has been completed on the new multipurpose facility which was constructed in the compound of the Fort Wellington Police Station, West Coast Berbice.
The project is being described as the largest Station Management committee project in the entire country.
Construction which commenced just over a month and a half ago was completed in record time. The one flat building will house among other things a canteen, a lecture hall, a rest and waiting area and a facility to host indoor games, such a darts, dominoes and whist.
The facility is also being used as a lunch room.
The work is a joint effort of the station management committee of the Fort Wellington Police Station and the management of the police administration of the station under the auspices of Assistant Superintendent Jairam Ramlakhan, officer in charge of Sub Division No 3 West Berbice.
The project involved building a canteen and a shed in the compound which is also being used as a recreational facility for both police and members of the public.
The facility is also being used to conduct training for ranks, scouts and others using the confines of the station. The facility is also being used as a waiting area for persons to rest and relax.
A stove and refrigerator have been acquired for the canteen.
Speaking to members of the committee it was observed that on the entire West Coast Berbice which encompasses the No.3 Sub division there are no training facilities for police ranks.
The Number Three sub-division encompasses Weldaad, Fort Wellington and Blairmont police stations.
The members of the committee are Chairman Cecil Ramdat, Secretary Fazal Habibulla, Treasurer Juan Totaram, while the committee members are Dorothy Peters, Arjune Singh, Thakoor Persaud, Deonarine Singh and Khemraj. Assistant Superintendent Jairam Ramlakhan, Chief Inspector Gregory Springer and Station Sergeant Kwesi Gravesande are the ex official members.
Members of the committee were also loud in praise for the leadership of the Berbice division and the No.3 sub-division.
