Essequibo’s two oldest centenarians,103-year-old,Lillian Elliot, of Mashabo, and May Garraway, of Grant Mainstay, Lower Pomeroon River, were guests of the Bacchus Supermarket, at Affiance, recently.
Both Garraway and Elliot are said to be medically fit. Essequibo’s older folks sat accompanied by a relative or two and partook of the delicacies prepared by the Bacchuses.
Former councillor, Francis Darchiville, who was responsible for organizing the event, said that the idea was to have all four of Essequibo’s centenarians at one spot, since the opportunity may not present itself again.
Darchiville, who said that he was proud to have met the two older women, added that he was impressed at their medical record, especially at their age.
Garraway, who is recovering from a ten-foot fall, is not suffering from any medical condition, Elliot is likewise healthy and still washes her own clothes, however, she has one complaint, the gradual loss of her sight.
Both centenarians have said that they do eat all types of food but have a special taste for ground provision and fish.
Garraway was born in 1910, while Elliot was born one year earlier.
King’s Jewellery funded the cost for the transportation for both women, while Bacchus provided lunch.
Centenarians Charles Gardiner and Mohammed Khan, of Aurora were not present at the occasion; Gardiner because of the inclement weather and Khan is said to be out of the country.
