Seventy-six year-old Saheed Hamid was killed with a shotgun, and not with a small calibre weapon as reported in the press.
A police statement said that several shotgun pellets were removed from the victim during Monday’s post mortem, which was performed by pathologist Dr. Vivekanand Brijmohan.
The cause of death was given as shock and haemorrhage due to gunshot injuries.
Kaieteur News understands that ‘wadding’ from a shotgun pellet was also removed from the victim’s chest wall. A source said that there was a gaping entry wound, and Hamid’s lower ribs were fractured, and there was damage to the diaphragm and spleen.
Hamid, called ‘Uncle Tulu’, was shot in the chest around 02:30 hrs on Sunday after venturing outside to use a latrine.
