Three students of the Vryman’s Erven Secondary School were charged for assaulting a male teacher of the school on November 21 last.
The Fourth Formers (Grade 10) appeared before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo yesterday (Monday) at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court where the trio pleaded not guilty to the charge. They were represented by Attorney-at-Law Charrandass Persaud.
It is alleged that the young men began to verbally and physically abuse the male teacher, Darrel Thompson, on a staircase in the school. One of the young men was armed with a cutlass. The weapon was seized by the teacher which led to more aggression from the students.
The teacher was further threatened on numerous occasions from the said students.
The teens were each placed on $20,000 bail and are expected back in court on March 18, 2013.
