A man who allegedly slapped his girlfriend after she pulled his dreadlocks appeared before Magistrate Leron Daley yesterday on an assault charge.
Trevor Franklin pleaded not guilty to the charge which states that on Monday, November 5, he unlawfully assaulted his girlfriend Shamilla Williams. Williams is also charged for assault and using threatening language. She too denied the allegations brought against her.
According to Franklin’s lawyer, Paul Fung–A–Fat, the defendant, who has two children, and the complainant, have lived together at Lot 383 West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, for the past eleven months. The lawyer applied for affordable bail for his client.
The prosecution’s facts relate that the couple had a disagreement on the day of the incident which resulted in the woman pulling the man’s hair and the accused in turn slapping her, which resulted in a black eye.
Franklin was released on $25,000 bail while Williams was granted bail in the sum of $35,000
