Accused chain-snatcher refused bail
Kevin Baird also known as Sherwin Baird of Linden was yesterday remanded to prison on a robbery charge. Baird faced Magistrate Leron Daley and denied the allegation that on November 5 at Georgetown, he robbed Shukmandi Shursingh of a gold band valued at $56,000.
Reports are that the victim was shopping in the city when the defendant came up to her, snatched her band and sped off with it.
Prosecutor Denise Booker asked that the court refuse bail based on the prevalence and nature of the offence. She also emphasised that persons should be able to walk on the streets of the city with their belongings. Baird was refused bail and will return to court on Friday, November 9.
