Several religious bodies from the Christian faith in particular, yesterday, endorsed the major stakeholders’ decision of raising the ante on government, as they petitioned God’s hand in presenting a 13 point plan that is intended to secure a brighter future and fast track development in Linden and Region 10 (Upper Demerara/ Berbice).
Simultaneously there were prayer requests for God’s intervention to speak to the hearts of those in government including President Donald Ramotar in hearing the cries of the people of Linden.
In an impressive show of a collaborative effort, residents turned up also to support the call for the government to withdraw its ‘on hold’ decision on the increased electricity tariff.
Residents support the call for financial donations to aid the continuation of protest action in Linden.
Pointing out that the increased rate for power consumption was now only one of the factors to be looked at, Pastor Selwyn Sills read the 13 point plan which was put to President Ramotar’s government, making it clear that “these are recommendations the churches as one of the stakeholders are in agreement with, as the general objective is to improve the livelihood of all in the town and region.”
Pastors and Ministers turned out in more numbers than last Sunday’s Service and their involvement could not be mistaken.
The crowd even though smaller raised over $104,000, and another donation was taken from those attending, which would go towards supplying food stuff for residents who have stood firm in protesting against the implementation of an electricity increase by government.
