Two testify as Doobay murder PI continues

Two police officers yesterday testified in the preliminary inquiry (PI) into the death of Shewraney Doobay, wife of prominent physician, Dr. Ramsundar Doobay.
The woman was killed on May 24, 2011, at Echilibar Villas, Campbellville. The police alleged that the 58-year-old victim was murdered by her nephew, Mark Singh, of Prince William Street, Plaisance, and an accomplice, Shakir Mohamed, of Lot 127 Latchuni Street, Better Hope, East Coast Demerara.
Singh, however, died in prison from what doctors said, was a severe case of asthma, while Mohamed is facing the pre-trial hearing before Magistrate Hazel Octive- Hamilton at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Police Superintendent Marlon Chapman took the stand while being led in his evidence-in-chief by special prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent Fazil Karimbaksh. Chapman testified to what he had done during the investigations.
Inspector Joel David also testified.
In early March, Dr. Doobay, who is the Head of Internal Medicine at Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC), had testified to what transpired leading up to the death of his wife. He and another relative were the ones who reportedly discovered the dead woman.
Mohamed’s attorney Vic Puran was absent yesterday. He is expected to cross-examine two witnesses who will return to court on May 7.
Mrs. Doobay was found lying in a pool of blood on the kitchen floor of the two-storey home she and her husband occupied. Reports were that the woman had been struck repeatedly in the head with a blunt instrument which caused her demise.
