Dear Editor,
I must say that I am extremely glad that Mr. Carl Greenidge has returned to the political scene to clear the air on a number of issues that have been misrepresented in the past.
In particular, since 1991, much has been said about accountability or the lack of accountability over the period from 1982 to 1991. It is an interesting revelation by Greenidge that in fact, it is Mr. Anand Goolsarran who failed to discharge his duties in order to complete the audits of the accounts for those years.
Mr. Greenidge has finally spoken out and revealed the truth about Mr. Goolsarran’s dereliction of duty in contributing to the breakdown in accountability.
In fact, for many years, it was suspected that Goolsarran was in cahoots with the PPP to remove the PNC from office, hence his frequent resort to the media just before the 1992 elections on matters related to accountability. Some have long speculated that he actually might have been involved in sabotaging the then PNC government to make them look bad and to unseat them from office.
So, it came as no surprise that he took the publicly anti-PNC stance on the accountability matter and helped to hound the PNC out of office. There should be an official enquiry in the role of Anand Goolsarran in the breakdown of public accountability prior to 1992, and on the political (anti-PNC and pro-PPP) stance he took prior to 1992 while he held a constitutional office that required him to be independent. Yours sincerely, Alvin Hamilton
