Young Warriors CC calls on the National Selectors to include Richard Ramdeen

The Executive of the Young Warriors Cricket Club of Cumberland, East Canje, Berbice, is calling on the National Selectors to include National opener Richard Ramdeen in the Guyana team for the semifinal playoffs of the WICB Regional 4-Day Tournament.
Following is the full text of a release issued by the club:
“The club is of the view that it is time for him {Ramdeen} to be given a chance particularly taking into consideration that all the openers for Guyana have failed in the tournament so far. Ramdeen is a specialist opener and the club sees it as unfair to continue to ask Leon Johnson to open for the National team.
Johnson’s batting has been affected tremendously after an outstanding start to the tournament. This will severely affect his chances of making any West Indies team in the near future.
An official of the club has indicated that Ramdeen is 24-years-old and only last year represented Guyana at the National four-day level, 50-overs, he also played against the touring Pakistanis.
He may not have reaped the desired success, but his performances were not too bad either.
He was one of two Berbice players that followed the advice of the Berbice Board and stayed away from the 20/20 trials conducted by the defunct Guyana Cricket Board. His decision has worked against him as he was not even considered for the 2011 – 20/20 National team and was not even called in a squad of thirty listed by the GCB.
For his support of the BCB, he was personally threatened by members of the defunct GCB (at Albion during 20/20 competitions) that he would never again make the Guyana team. This took a toll on him psychologically and affected his performances during the tournament. However, he excelled in the Universal DVD club competition for teams in Berbice.
The club feels that Ramdeen is too young for people to influence the ending of his career. History has proven that his decision to support the BCB was correct as the Government-formed IMC is responsible to fix the game in our country. As a result, the club calls on the selectors to give this young man what is due to him and let justice prevail.
The club congratulates the Guyana team for making the final four and it is clearly evident that the team is now settled that the Government formed IMC won the battle against the illegally elected Guyana Cricket Board.
Special praises to our own Berbicians Narsingh Deonarine, Assad Fudadin, Veerasammy Permaul and Brandon Bess among others. We are confident that with the return of batting stars, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ramnaresh Sarwan, Guyana will win the 2012 tournament. Go Guyana go!”
