Dead is Rashad ‘Imran’ Haniff of Lot 9 Squatting Area, Cotton Tree, West Berbice, who had left home earlier in the day with his brother Azad to assist the rice farmer Omeer Khan, with odd jobs in the backdam.
Upon their return, Haniff remained at Khan’s residence, Lot 10 Cotton Tree Public Road, while Azad went home for lunch.
The family later received word that the boy had been electrocuted and his body had been taken to the Fort Wellington Hospital.
The boy’s mother, Nafeeza, said her son would normally assist Khan with odd- jobs but she did not expect him to lose his life.
Khan’s neighbours, related to Kaieteur News that while the boy was welding on the rice combine harvester there was a shout, “turn off the generator…turn off the generator!”
Khan’s sons reportedly noticed that young Haniff was being electrocuted.

The rice farmer could not be reached for a comment, given that up to press time he was still detained by police ranks at the Blairmont Police Station.
